The answer is: most likely! In most cases it's completely unintentional, but this example shows how easy it is to leave digital footprints while being totally unaware.

I never paid much attention to dashcams until I bought one myself after a bitter and expensive experience where I had to pay for someone else's fault.

I discovered that my new gadget captures both audio and video in decent quality. At that point my security triggers were still intact.

I travel a lot and often need a taxi or Uber to get to/from the airport. The first time I landed in Warsaw, I noticed nearly all Uber cars had dashcams. The second time I saw that most cars with dashcams also had signs informing about it - signs I had never noticed before.

When you enter a taxi or Uber, you might think you're in a semi-private, confined space that offers some privacy. Change that mindset - you get very little privacy in a car, just protection from the weather.

The purpose of this article is to raise awareness: many places have surveillance that records us and what we say. Some of these recordings might capture secrets, important information or very private moments.

In theory we have rights regarding these recordings, but in practice, it's likely close to zero.

And speaking of dashcams, if you own one and are about to park your car for a long period, pop the card out. The dashcam itself is worth nothing, but if you're an entrepreneur or someone with valuable information, a dashcam looks like a pretty low-hanging fruit.
